Sometimes despite maximal medical management chronic eustachian tube obstruction occurs.

This often necessitates the use of long lasting ventilation tubes. Most ventilation tubes will automatically grow out of the ear drum and we hope that by that time the underlying eustachian tube dysfunction has resolved. When this doesnt occur further ventilation tubes need to be inserted. To minimise the frequency a T-tube can be used. It has a longer shaft and longer internal flanges.
